Can I only bill a maximum of 10 pregnancy visits? (item 16500)

Question

I was told by my practice manager that I can only bill 10 routine antenatal attendances for my pregnant patients. What do I do if a patient has more than 10 antenatal consults such as in twins where I need to see the patient more frequently?

Answer

There is no limit mentioned in the MBS in regards to the number of routine antenatal consultations there are per pregnancy. Each routine attendance in clinic should be billed as a 16500.
